Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is seeking a
dedicated Protection Advisor to strengthen
DRC's operations in Myanmar's Kachin
State.

Post type:
Protection Advisor (Salary and conditions is in
accordance with Danish Refugee Council's Terms
of Employment for Expatriates; please refer to

placed at salary level A11)

Duty Station:
Myitkyna, Kachin State, Myanmar (non-family
duty station)

Duration:
12 months with possibility of extension subject to
funding and performance

Key areas of responsability:
Protection activities and strategy
Responsible for all protection related
activities in Kachin State and contribute to
DRC/DDGs efforts to protection at national
level
Ensure quality and quantity of protection
monitoring efforts in Kachin State
Analyze protection related information and
communicate protection efforts to relevant
partners and duty bearers
Support or lead advocacy efforts on selected
themes in coordination with partners
Conceptualize awareness raising efforts according
to needs of targeted populations
Support CCCM trainings for local camp managers
Identify and expand sectors and areas of
cooperation with duty bearers
Seek and guide dialogue with partners and duty
bearers regarding protection related affairs
Provide continuous input to DRC's protection
work and vision in Kachin State as well as to the
national protection work of DRC
Project implementation Take active
leadership in the implementation of
protection related project activities as part
of a team effort
Ensure the delivery of Individual Protection
Assistance packages to most vulnerable
individuals
Lead the implementation of Community
Protection projects in design and
conceptualization
Ensure proper cooperation with partner
organizations and delivery of quality services
Representation Represent DRC at all
relevant coordination fora with partner
organizations as well as duty bearers
Proactive participation in protection working
groups at local and national level
Participation in meetings and coordination with
duty bearers
Participation in convoys to border areas
Reporting Take lead on all reporting efforts
of DRC Kachin on protection related topics
Internal reporting to main office and protection
group within DRC
Donor reporting on all related sectors
Drafting of protection notes to donors and duty
bearers
Accountability Guided by the DRC
Programme Handbook, continuously
monitor and develop relevant accountability
initiatives within the protection sector as
well as strengthening the effort to
document the impact of activities.
Supervision and reporting:
The Protection Advisor reports primarily to and
works in close collaboration with the expatriate
DRC Program Manager in Kachin State.
Qualifications and Experience:
University Degree in law, international
humanitarian law, international relations, political
science or similar
A minimum of 3 years project management
experience in displacement related contexts,
preferably in camps and camp-like situations
Demonstrated ability to conduct training on
protection and human rights topics, including
staff training
Proven advocacy skills
Strong interpersonal communication and writing
skills
Ability to work both independently and as part of
a team
Cultural sensitivity and adaptability
Professional fluency in English
